BOTH LABOUR AND TORIES HAVE FAILED ON JOBS - CAROL WOODS

Durham Lib Dem Parliamentary candidate, Carol Woods, has criticised successive Labour and Conservative governments for their failure on jobs for the North East.

Carol said, "The Conservatives left a legacy of unemployment in the North East which the Labour party have not done enough to turn around. In fact, unemployment in Durham has doubled in the last 18 months.

"It is galling to see senior Conservative politicians visit this area and promise more jobs when the devastation they caused is still fresh in the memory.

"And this Labour Government has been little better. They have rushed to bail out the bankers but they have not done nearly enough to create and safeguard local jobs.

"Now the Chancellor is promising to make cuts that are even deeper than the ones we endured under Thatcher. With such a heavy reliance on public sector jobs in this area, that would be disastrous.

Only the Lib Dems will take the steps required and provide the investment that is needed to create and protect green and sustainable jobs. A failed Labour Government has followed a failed Tory Government, no wonder so many people here are switching to support the Lib Dems."
