Thousands of hard-working people across County Durham will be better off - thanks to the Liberal Democrats.
At the General Election, the Liberal Democrats pledged to raise the income tax threshold - taking millions of hardworking people out of income tax and give millions more a tax cut.
By joining the coalition Government, the Lib Dems are now delivering the first phase of this policy.
Thanks to the Lib Dems, from April 2011 5,950 working people in County Durham will no longer pay income tax.
REAL HELP FOR COUNTY DURHAM
A further 196,200 people in County Durham will get an income tax cut of up to £200 a year.
Lib Dem leader on Durham County Council councillor Nigel Martin said: "This will be a major boost to thousands of people across County Durham. "Despite their endless promises Labour failed to make things fairer for working people. The gap between rich and poor got bigger under Labour."
"This will make things easier for people working hard to make a living."
