CAROL JOINS ST GEORGE'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

April 23, 2010 1:00 PM

Carol and Christine Martin, Appletree ManagerLib Dem candidate for Durham, Carol Woods has joined residents at Appletree Care Home, Meadowfield, to celebrate St George's Day.

Carol was invited to attend a special 'balloon release' celebration organised for the residents. 40 balloons were released, each numbered with an Appletree address. Anyone finding a balloon is asked to reply to the resident and the response received from furthest away will receive a prize.

Carol said:

"It's a pleasure to have been invited and the event was great fun. I think it is important that we celebrate St George's Day and take pride in our national identity. I'd like to thank Anne Kidman, the event organiser, and Christine Martin, the care home manager.

"Today has also given me an opportunity to speak to some of the staff and residents at Appletree. They were full of praise for the work being done at the care home, though they had real concerns about Labour's current policy on care for the elderly. The care we provide for elderly people is one of the most important issues facing the country.

"Such is the scale of the challenge that Nick Clegg has called for all parties to come together to come up with a solution and I think that is a sensible approach. It represents the new politics that Nick and the Lib Dems represent at this election."
