Lib Dem candidate for Durham Carol Woods has welcomed the party's pledge to end the dominance of the City of London and to ensure the North East gets more help through the recession.
The Liberal Democrats today set out their plans for banking reform, including Local Enterprise Funds which aim to connect local entrepreneurs with local wealth. Another initiative is the Regional Stock Exchange which would act as a regional platform for entrepreneurs to successfully attract capital for their businesses to expand and develop.
Carol Woods, who owns a small holiday cottage business in Durham, said:
"There is no-where near enough support for small businesses, and the Labour Government has put billions into banks but they are still not lending to the people and businesses that need finance."
"Our plans offer exactly the sort of change we need for sustainable regional growth. Labour and Conservatives clearly won't stand up to the City and don't have a single useful idea of what to do with it now.
"The Liberal Democrats are the only party to offer the banking reform the broken economy needs."
