Carol Woods has welcomed the Kelly report on MPs' expenses and has criticised Durham's Labour MP for voting to cover up expenses.
Carol, Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Durham, said, "It is important that these recommendations are accepted in full. It is quite disturbing to hear that, despite all we have uncovered about the abuse of the system, some MPs are still opposed to root and branch reform.
"Durham's Labour MP voted against independent audit of expenses last year, Prior to the scandal of expenses being uncovered she was more than happy to claim almost every penny she could squeeze out of the system. In 2007, for example, not a single MP claimed more from the second homes allowance than Durham's Labour MP.
"Following the public outcry over expenses, she is now rushing to to say that these practices must end but she was happy to take full advantage of them herself for years beforehand. It is no wonder that local people have dismissed her current position as opportunistic spin."
